Chiara Bordin is the founder and leader of the CREATE initiative network.
She is associate professor with a focus on teaching and research within the energy informatics domain. Her main research interests are related to mathematical optimization in the context of computer science applied to smart energy and power systems. She holds a M.Sc. and a B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Bologna (Italy). She obtained her PhD from the same university in control system engineering and operational research, with a thesis focused on mathematical optimization applied to thermal and electrical energy systems. Afterward, she worked as a research associate at the University of Durham (UK) in collaboration with the Durham Energy Institute and the Engineering Department of Cambridge University. She then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at NTNU, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Norway). She has been a research scientist at SINTEF Energy (Norway), the largest research centre in Scandinavia. Throughout this path, Chiara has been involved in a wide variety of interdisciplinary projects within energy and power systems, where she further developed three main research fields of specialization: predictive analytics, prescriptive analytics, and pedagogy.
Chiara Bordin is a faculty member of the computer science department of UiT, the Arctic University of Norway, in Tromsø, where she is actively involved in research, teaching, and pedagogical initiatives. At UiT, she has been an active member of the Arctic Centre for Sustainable Energy (ARC), an interdisciplinary centre focusing on Arctic challenges within renewable energy and greenhouse gas management. She is one of the PIs of the the UiT Aurora Centre MASCOT (Mathematical Strutures in Computation), which aims at unifying and advancing research frontiers in the interplay of pure mathematics and computations. She is part of the Changing Arctic transdisciplinary research school aimed at training researchers to address societal challenges in a sustainable manner. She is a member of the Arctic Green Computing research group at the University of Tromso, the Energy Systems and Advanced Materials research group at the University of South-Eastern Norway, campus Konsberg, and the Advanced Power System Operations (AdPSO) research group at the University of Stavanger. She is leading a research and didactic committee at UiT, aimed at integrating energy and sustainability into the computer science curriculum. She is actively involved in initiatives related to gender balance in informatics through projects (i.e., the first UiT Better Balance in Informatics BBI project) and dedicated talks.
